Moderated by Sophia Diamantopoulou (Associate professor at UCL), this conversation foregrounds Carey Jewitt’s distinctive interdisciplinary trajectory across multimodality, digital communication, and emerging technologies. Building on her longstanding contributions to methodological innovation and field defining research, the event explores how Jewitt has expanded multimodality’s boundaries, from early analyses of classroom interaction to large scale collaborations on touch, sensory experience, and human–technology interaction.

Reflecting on themes central to her work, the conversation will examine how interdisciplinarity shapes her research practice. It will also explore the challenges and possibilities of working across domains, and the role of multimodality in understanding contemporary communication. Together, these threads open a space to consider the future of multimodal inquiry and the approaches needed to study meaning making in technology mediated environments.
